With the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter moving on to the NFL this offseason, it means that a new face will take home college football’s top individual honor in 2025.
However, the question still remains, just whom will that be, and could that player come from the Alabama Crimson Tide?
Well, on Tuesday, FanDuel officially released the early betting favorites to win the 2025 Heisman Trophy, a list headlined by LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and Texas quarterback Arch Manning. Not far behind those two were a few other quarterbacks in Clemson’s Cade Klubnik, Penn State’s Drew Allar, and Tennessee’s Nico Iamaleava.
Alabama’s first player mentioned was wide receiver Ryan Williams, who at the moment sits with +3500 odds according to FanDuel. For reference, the names mentioned above all had odds under +1100, with Nussmeier’s odds currently sitting at +900.
In addition to Williams, two other Alabama players also have odds listed, as quarterback Ty Simpson is the next-highest at +5000, while quarterback Austin Mack is at +10000.
While the quarterback duo of Simpson and Mack are likely mentioned due to being options to start for Alabama alongside freshman Keelon Russell, it’s not hard to see why Williams has the greatest odds of any Crimson Tide player.
This past season, Williams was one of the nation’s most exciting players, as the true freshman ended the year with 48 receptions for 865 yards and eight touchdowns. Williams also rushed for two more scores, while also returning 12 punts for 120 yards.
Alabama has not had a Heisman Trophy winner since DeVonta Smith in 2020. Could that potentially change next season, and will it be one of the three mentioned above to do it?
