At the end of the Early Signing Day window, the Texas Longhorns were named the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation by two of the major recruiting sites. Both 247Sports and On3 rated the UT recruiting class the best in the nation. But Rivals had the Longhorns No. 3.
Rivals always re-ranks the players after the holiday all-star games. That re-rank of the players impacted the team rankings in a positive way for Texas. The Horns now have the No. 1 class on Rivals too.
The recruiting analysis site says Texas won by the closest margin in site history, edging Georgia by just 12 points, 3036 to 3024. The SEC has had the top team in the final Rivals team rankings every year since 2015.
“The final Rivals250 update was good for the Longhorns. Texas finished with four five-star signees, which is one more than it had at the conclusion of the Early Signing Period. Receiver Kaliq Lockett and defensive end Lance Jackson were awarded their fifth stars, joining defensive lineman Justus Terry and Swiss Army knife Jonah Williams. The late surge made by the Longhorns in the recruitment of Terry was one of the biggest upsets of this recruiting cycle.
Arch Manning has to be excited about the receiver haul of Lockett, No. 48 overall prospect Jaime Ffrench and top-100 prospect Daylan McCutcheon. Speaking of quarterbacks, Longhorn signee KJ Lacey moved into the top 50 in the Rivals250 after an impressive showing at the Under Armour All-America Game earlier this month.” — Rivals analyst Adam Friedman

The final National Signing Day is Feb. 5, though that signing window isn’t expected to impact the final team rankings substantially.
