Texas Longhorns finish season No. 3 in US LBM Coaches Poll

After coming in at No. 4 in the final AP Top 25 Poll of the season, the Texas Longhorns got a little more respect in the Coaches Poll. UT finished No. 3 in the final ranking of the US LBM Coaches Poll, just behind national championship game participants Ohio State and Notre Dame.

The Longhorns edged the Oregon Ducks for the third spot in the poll, swapping spots the two programs have in the final AP ranking. Penn State rounds out the top five.

Both the Ducks and the Longhorns were eliminated by eventual national champion Ohio State. The Ducks finished the season 13-1, while Texas finished 13-3. The coaches must have thought UT was closer to the level of Ohio State than Oregon was at the end of the season.

The SEC was well represented in the final poll with seven teams, including No. 6 Georgia, No. 8 Tennessee, No. 12 Ole Miss, No. 17 Alabama, No. 19 South Carolina and No. 20 Missouri.

Texas playoff opponents Arizona State and Clemson finished No. 7 and No. 11 respectively. Clemson was tied at 11th with fellow ACC member SMU.
