Folks, McGough Mania is back in Birmingham. The Birmingham Stallions are officially re-signing QB Alex McGough, multiple sources tell Pro Football Newsroom.
BREAKING: QB Alex McGough is set to re-sign with the Birmingham Stallions, per sources.
McGough, the USFL’s MVP in 2023, led the @USFLStallions to a Championship title in ’23. He’s been on the #Packers practice squad the last two seasons.

This is, without a doubt, some of the biggest news of the entire offseason. Alex McGough was absolutely sensational during his USFL run for two years, specifically taking over in 2023 as QB1 in Birmingham.
A four touchdown night for Alex McGough – the @USFL MVP – in the Championship, was a fitting way to wrap up the #USFL 2023 season.
Excited to see where @McgoughAlex lands this offseason. His campaign in 2023 was remarkable. pic.twitter.com/FvvzB2tVa3

McGough split time with J’Mar Smith in 2022, as Birmingham made their Championship run. While he started out as QB1 that year, injuries pushed him to the bench, and Smith took over. However, in the Championship game, when J’Mar went down, Alex stepped in and led Birmingham to a comeback victory over Philadelphia.
In season two of the USFL, Alex began the year as QB2 – but quickly became the starter as Smith missed the entire year with a hand injury. McGough absolutely took the league by storm, with the following statistics:
180/267 (67.4%)
2,104 passing yards
7.9 YPA
20 passing TD
5 INT
108.3 QBR
Alex McGough is simply playing football on an entirely different level this half.
There’s absolutely no way this man isn’t on an NFL team after this #USFL season. What he’s done in 2023 is simply absurd.
How many NFL QB’s are making this throw in game?pic.twitter.com/vLNApbBYIw
