The college football world expects Garrett Nussmeier to be one of the top quarterbacks in 2025.
Heading into his second season as LSU’s starter, Nussmeier is a top contender for the Heisman Trophy.
Per FanDuel, Nussmeier leads the field with +900 odds to take home the most prestigious award in the game. He’s just ahead of Texas’ Arch Manning, who sits at +950.
Ranking third is Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik. Nussmeier and Klubnik will square off in week one when LSU travels to Clemson.
2025 will be Nussmeier’s fifth in Baton Rouge. In his first year starting, he completed 337 passes for 4,052 yards and 29 touchdowns. Nussmeier sat behind former Tiger and Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels before taking the job in 2024.
In his final season donning the purple and gold, Nussmeier will be chasing LSU’s all-time passing record. With 5,772 yards over his career, he is 3,343 away from surpassing Tommy Hodson’s mark of 9,115.
With his top two targets off to the NFL Draft in Kyren Lacy and Mason Taylor, Nussmeier will need to use spring camp to develop connections with transfer tight ends and wide receivers along with the returning core.
