Three former LSU football stars named ROY finalists

Malik Nabers, Jayden Daniels top 10 picks in mock draft

On Thursday, the NFL released its finalists for AP Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Former LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels as well as wide receivers Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. made the cut for the final list. The winner will be announced at NFL Honors on February 6. A panel of 50 NFL media members across the country voted before the playoffs started.

Daniels is the only one of the three still playing. He leads the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship against the Philadelphia Eagles with a Super Bowl trip on the line.

His rookie season is heralded by some as the best the NFL has ever seen. The former Heisman Trophy winner passed for 3,568 yards and 25 touchdowns in the regular season. He rushed for 891 yards, ranking second among quarterbacks behind the Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson.

Thomas and Nabers rank third and seventh, respectively in receiving yards. Thomas took the initiative on a Jacksonville Jaguars team riddled with injuries to its pass catchers. He found the end zone ten times, tied for sixth in the league.

Nabers cemented himself as the top pass catching threat on the struggling New York Giants. He caught passes from four different quarterbacks in his first season, finishing with 1,204 receiving yards and seven scores.

The trio led LSU to one of its best offensive seasons in program history. The Commanders selected Daniels with the second overall pick. Nabers went to the Giants at No. 6 overall while Thomas was picked by the Jaguars at No. 23.
