The Birmingham Stallions made a defensive move on Monday. They’ve signed DE D.J. Coleman, and cut DE DaMarcus Mitchell ahead of Training Camp, which begins in a month.

D.J. Coleman is an exciting pickup for Birmingham, and one who should fit right into this defensive unit in 2025. Coleman began his college career at Jacksonville State, playing there for four seasons. Across that span, D.J. racked up 177 tackles and 17.5 sacks, serving as a full-time starter the last three years. As a junior, he earned All-OVC First-Team Defense honors.

D.J. then transferred to Missouri for his final season of eligibility, and started in three of 12 games played that year. Coleman posted 38 tackles, 8.5 TFL’s, and 5.5 sacks.

This led to an NFL opportunity for D.J., who signed with the Jaguars as an UDFA in May of 2023. He remained in Jacksonville for two seasons, mainly on their practice squad.
