Tanner Engstrand is in the final coordinator on Aaron Glenn’s first coaching staff with the New York Jets.
Engstrand, formerly the passing-game coordinator of the Detroit Lions has followed Glenn from there to join the Jets.
The team announced the hiring on Friday:
NOW OFFICIAL! We’ve named Tanner Engstrand our new Offensive Coordinator.
— New York Jets (@nyjets) January 31, 2025
Engstrand, 42, worked with a Lions offense that scored a league-high 564 points in 2024.
With Glenn’s past as a defensive coach, the hiring of the coordinator on the other side of the ball is always of interest. Considering the high-flying nature of Detroit’s offense, Engstrand will bring some excitement to New York. However, he will be a first-time play caller.
It remains to be seen what his offense will look like with the Jets, namely if quarterback Aaron Rodgers will return.
Engstrand’s hiring comes after Steve Wilks and Chris Banjo were hired as defensive and special teams coordinators in New York, respectively.
