Cleveland Browns All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett formally requested a trade on Monday, and it set off a firestorm of social media reactions from New England Patriots fans.
Sure, the Patriots are smack-dab in the middle of a rebuild after finishing last season with a 4-13 record. But they have Drake Maye at quarterback, Mike Vrabel as the head coach and more cap space than they know what to do with heading into free agency.
So when it comes to Garrett, why not the Patriots?
The Browns aren’t going to get the kind of haul the Oakland Raiders got in return for Khalil Mack. Garrett is 29 years old, which is two years older than Mack was when he was traded. The Chicago Bears gave up two first-round draft picks, a third-round pick and a sixth-round pick for Mack, a second-round pick and a conditional fifth-round pick.
New England won’t be repeating history, but they could put in a call and an offer for Garrett if he really ends up on the trade block. Here’s what fans are saying about the trade talk on social media:
Sneaky Myles Garrett destination: the Patriots have the most cap space in the NFL and the premium picks to get it done…

It’s tough to see it making sense for both sides. Garrett wants a contender and the #Patriots aren’t in a spot to trade a boatload of picks for one player.
That said, it’s Myles Garrett. You absolutely need to make the call and see if you can get him for a reasonable price. https://t.co/ewiCstCLrU

Myles Garrett is the requesting a trade and Mike Vrabel worked for the Cleveland Browns last year, so therefore Myles Garrett will get traded to the New England Patriots. I assume this is how that is supposed to work. https://t.co/Fm8bTDTo0k
