It’s a new era of Houston Texans football.
The Texans have hired Rams passing game coordinator and tight ends coach Nick Caley as their new offensive coordinator after a week-long search. The former New England Patriots tight ends coach will now upgrade in place of Bobby Slowik, who was fired following last month’s divisional-round loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Caley, 42, has been tied to the job since the early stages of the coaching search. Before joining Los Angeles, he interviewed for the same position in 2023 before Texans coach DeMeco Ryans ultimately decided to hire Slowik from San Francisco.
A key element for Caley’s duties will be fixing C.J. Sroud, who took a step back from his rookie season to his second year after tossing 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
Fans are pumped for a new stage of Caley calling the shots down in Houston. Here are some of the top reactions from Monday’s news.
Houston Texans just got a great one in Nick Caley. Rising star. A McVay favorite. Chose the Houston job over other opportunities, which tells you how he feels about the HC, QB, and franchise.

Spoke to a few NFL front office people that described Texans OC Nick Caley in strong positive ways.
“Rising Star.”
“Best TE coach in the league.”
“Great guy.”No one is sure how he will be as a play-caller but none have any reason to think he won’t be successful in that…

Here’s to Nick Caley being the best OC the Texans have ever had 🍻
Will he actually? No idea. But he’s got the diverse scheme background (McDaniels+McVay) and “leader of men” qualities I was hoping to get in our OC
Now I’m really intrigued to see the staff he puts together https://t.co/kSF3W3EhgP

Tough to have an opinion on someone you’ve never seen do the job before. I haven’t a clue if Nick Caley is a good hire. I do like that he’s coached tight ends and fullbacks. Previous Texans OC had never been a position coach. We will see if that matters.
