Shemar Stewart is another defensive end that looks like he came out of a laboratory. The defensive end stands 6-foot-5, 280 pounds of pure muscle. Stewart is a powerful athlete who has rocketed up draft boards after an impressive Senior Bowl.
When I selected him in a mock draft in November, I compared Stewart to the number one overall picks, Jadaveon Clowney, and Travon Walker. Stewart is a freak athlete and he’ll prove it at the combine later this month.
Stewart didn’t have a lot of production at Texas A&M. He had 31 tackles and one-and-a-half sacks this season. Stewart is raw as a pass rusher, he has the power to crush a pocket but lacks the hand fighting to rush the passer consistently.
Stewart is 21 years old and rapidly developing as a technician. He is a boom-or-bust prospect with the potential to be an All-Pro defensive end. He’ll be a good run defender to start his career as he develops a pass-rush plan. Stewart, like Carter, would be a great addition for the Browns if Garrett stays.
Stewart told the Browns’ social media team that Myles Garrett was his favorite player at the Senior Bowl. The young defensive end isn’t ready to step into his shoes yet, but he could develop into a ferocious pass rusher in his own right.
