Former HC emerges as top candidate to become Saints DC

The band might be getting back together.

The Saints hired Kellen Moore as their new head coach, and he could be bringing on one of his former staff members in a prominent role.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that former Chargers head coach Brandon Staley is a “leading candidate” to become New Orleans’ defensive coordinator on Moore’s staff.

Staley hired Moore as the Chargers’ offensive coordinator in 2023. His unit ranked 18th in total offense, 13th in passing, 25th in rushing and 21st in scoring.

Staley was hired as Los Angeles’ head coach back in 2021 after overseeing the league’s best defense when he was the Rams’ defensive coordinator in 2020.

Staley posted a 24-24 record in the three seasons, including a 0-1 record in the only season he made the playoffs in 2022.

This past season, Staley served as an assistant coach with the 49ers.
