Former New England Patriots assistant coach Matt Patricia was reportedly in Columbus earlier in the week for a meeting with the Ohio State Buckeyes about their defensive coordinator position, per 247 Sports’ Matt Zenitz.
Patricia was last in the NFL as a senior defensive assistant for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023. However, his contract expired at the end of the season and was not renewed.
He held the role of defensive coordinator for the Patriots from 2012-2017, before taking on a head coaching job with the Detroit Lions.
The Buckeyes are looking for a new defensive coordinator following the departure of Jim Knowles to Penn State in January. It’s a program hoping to repeat as national champions under head coach Ryan Day.

Patricia was an integral part of the Patriots’ defense during his time under Bill Belichick, and he won two Super Bowls as a defensive coordinator for the team.
He could be a tremendous asset to an Ohio State program that has boasted strong defensive units over the last couple of seasons.
