Sam Cosmi working hard to return for 2025

Sam Cosmi has message for teammates, fans

Tearing an ACL is difficult for any football player.

When you are a 300-pound plus lineman, that is so much weight for your injured leg to support.

In addition, when an injured 300-pound lineman tears his ACL in the NFC divisional round as Sam Cosmi did, he has a huge challenge ahead to not miss a great deal of time in the 2025 NFL season.

The Washington Commanders certainly missed Cosmi the next week when they traveled to Philadelphia to face the Eagles in the NFC Championship game.

“There’s nothing more than I want to be on the field with my brothers and being able to battle,” Cosmi said when he was cleaning out his locker.

Cosmi’s surgery was completed on Jan. 28, and the former Texas Longhorn already says he wants to return earlier than expected.

“I’m gonna do everything in my power to get my body in peak physical shape and be able to be ready for next year,” Cosmi said.

“How much work you put in is what you’re going to get out. That’s what I’m going to do with this, and hopefully, I’ll be back on the football field way sooner than expected.”

Adam Peters and Dan Quinn really like Cosmi, as he was signed to a second contract in September.

“This guy is a Commander through and through,” Quinn said then. “He’s tough. He plays square. He’s strong. We’re really fortunate that he’ll be an anchor inside for years to come.”

In his first two seasons, Cosmi missed 11 combined games. However, Cosmi started in all 34 games over the last two seasons.
