Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Germaine Pratt requested a trade earlier this week. Pratt is entering the final year of his contract and is scheduled to earn a base salary of $5.2 million with zero guaranteed money. The Bengals would save approximately $5.85 million by trading him, with a manageable dead cap charge of $2.3 million.

Could Pratt interest the Seattle Seahawks? The only starting-caliber linebacker under contract is sophomore-to-be fourth-round pick Tyrice Knight. The Seahawks should have interest in re-signing Ernest Jones IV, but he’s positioned to demand a multi-year extension worth more than $10 million annually.
The 29-year-old defender recorded a career-high 143 tackles this past season, though tackling numbers don’t tell the complete story. The Bengals arguably fielded the worst defense in the league. Their defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo was fired. Pratt’s Pro Football Focus grade this past season was a lackluster 60.2.
The Bengals would likely accept day-three draft compensation in exchange for shedding Pratt’s salary. The Seahawks are scheduled to possess five picks between the fifth and seventh rounds. Despite that, they’d be wise to focus their efforts on re-signing Jones at linebacker, or pursuing like-minded alternatives. Pratt is an aging asset on the downslide and the Seahawks would be wise to resist any temptation to acquire him via trade.
