The Miami Dolphins decided Friday that it was worth sitting with $5.4 million in dead money to part with Kendall Fuller.
While the move saved the Dolphins about $2.8 million, it leaves the team in a precarious spot at cornerback. One side of the secondary is manned by seven-time Pro Bowler Jalen Ramsey and there’s not much reason to think that’ll change. But the other side has more questions than answers.
Storm Duck is the most economical solution after starting three games and playing nearly 500 snaps as an undrafted rookie in 2024. There’s also 2023 second-round pick Cam Smith and impending restricted free agent Kader Kohou.
The Dolphins need to add at the position and finding a starter opposite Ramsey could be a priority this offseason. Here are seven options they could pursue in free agency and the 2025 NFL draft:

The Dolphins filled out their starting defense lineup in 2024 with aging veterans Calais Campbell and Jordan Poyer. Without much cap space to work with, it stands to reason a similar strategy will be used in 2025.
Gilmore will turn 35 in September, but the wheels haven’t fallen off for the 2019 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. The Vikings got the veteran on a one-year, $7 million deal last year. He’s presumably be cheaper after a decent, but unremarkable year in Minnesota.
Jonathan Jones (Patriots)

In nearly a decade with the Patriots, Jones has had moments of brilliance in his career, but struggled through a down year in New England’s one season with Jerod Mayo at the helm. With a wave of changes in the Patriots coaching staff, Jones may be headed elsewhere for his 10th NFL season.
While he’s not the ideal build for an outside cornerback at 5’9, Jones is a speedy and versatile defensive back who has played inside and out in New England. It may take just a few million to bring Jones in to compete for a starting role.
Shaquill Griffin (Vikings)

It wasn’t long ago that the Jaguars dished out a three-year, $44.5 million deal to Griffin in free agency. But after a back injury led to his time in Duval ending early, Griffin has been a discount option for the Texans, Panthers, and Vikings in the last couple seasons.
In 2024, he held opposing passers to a 54.5 completion percentage with two touchdowns and two…
