The Houston Texans have become one of the NFL’s most promising young teams, largely thanks to quarterback C.J. Stroud.
Finishing with back-to-back division titles and wins in the wild-card round, Houston knows it’s good enough under Stroud to make the playoffs. How can it reach conference championship weekend while Stroud is still on a team-friendly contract?
That starts by adding a quality No. 2 receiver to pair with Nico Collins. Tank Dell has the potential to be the second-top weapon under Nick Caley’s play-calling, but he’s expected to miss most of the 2025 season.
Stefon Diggs might be back on a new one-year deal, but with free agency loomining, anything is possible, including him leaving for a larger contract.

ESPN’s Aaron Schatz recently proposed a bold offseason move for each NFL team. For Houston, he believes the franchise should pull off a massive trade for New York Jets Pro wide receiver and Stroud’s former Ohio State teammate Garrett Wilson.

The idea isn’t just about adding talent; it’s about reigniting chemistry that once terrorized the Big Ten during the 2021 season in Colubmus. During the lone season together, In 2021, Wilson had 70 catches for 1,058 yards and 12 touchdowns, which ranked top 10 in the nation.
Much like other AFC contending teams, Schatz thinks adding a former Bucleye to the offense could enhance Stroud’s potential in the passing game since it’s a familiar face.
“Other teams have had a ton of success reuniting college teammates, such as Joe Burrow with Ja’Marr Chase or Tua Tagovailoa with Jaylen Waddle,” Schatz wrote. “Why not do the same thing in Houston with Stroud and Wilson?”
The only downside of a deal getting done is the asking price. Despite owning six picks in the upcoming draft, Houston would need to give up its first-round pick at No. 25 and one of its Day 2 picks in 2026.
Wilson also is looking for a new contract after totaling his third straight 1,000-yard season. The Texans could pick up his fifth-year option while working on a…
