Week three of the UFL kicks off with what should be an entertaining Friday night showdown. The Birmingham Stallions host the Arlington Renegades to open up their slate of home games in the 2025 season, with two of the league’s best teams facing off.
Arlington is 2-0, but has looked a bit shaky. They barely got by the Houston Roughnecks at home, with their defense being able to make one final stand to force the Roughnecks into submission. Offensively, Arlington showed some weaknesses.
On Birmingham’s side, they were able to get back on track with a crucial road win over the Michigan Panthers. It wasn’t pretty, but they got the win, which is what matters at the end of the day.
Let’s take a look at what we can expect from these two heavyweights in the UFL – as it’s bound to be a good one.
Quarterback Play
For the Renegades, Luis Perez is back in action which is no surprise. We’ll see how he adjusts, after week two wasn’t his best performance on paper. Perez had some struggles against a Houston group that was playing faster and more physical football than a week prior.
We all know what Luis is capable of, though. Bob Stoops and Chuck Long will have to scheme this week for Perez to get the ball out of his hands quickly, especially with his lack of mobility compared to other UFL quarterbacks. Luis can move, but he’s not as agile as others – and with Birmingham’s pass rush building momentum after an excellent game against Michigan – he won’t have time to hold the ball forever.
For Birmingham, we’ve got an interesting storyline. Alex McGough was placed on IR, and Matt Corral will be QB1 moving forward. Corral entered the game on the second snap against Michigan, and showcased what he can do in a Skip Holtz-run offense.
Matt’s ceiling is high, but it comes down to his decision making. Matt’s made a couple of excellent throws during his time in Birmingham – but, can also try to force the issue when it’s not…
