JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars shocked the NFL world Thursday.
They did so by moving aggressively for the player they believe is the best prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft, selecting Colorado wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter No. 2 overall. They traded up with the Cleveland Browns from No. 5 overall.

Day 1 NFL Draft Observations
- Senior Writer John Oehser: Wow. Double wow. And triple wow. The Jaguars not only shocked the NFL world Thursday, they did so in historical fashion when they moved up three spots to select University of Colorado wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter with the No. 2 overall selection in the ’25 draft. The terms: The Jaguars sent Nos. 5, 36 (Round 2) and 126 (Round 4) overall in the ’25 draft and a first-round selection in the ’26 draft to the Browns with the Browns sending Nos. 2, 104 (Round 4) and 200 (Round 6) overall in the ’25 draft to the Jaguars. The level of equity sent to Cleveland makes it clear how much the Jaguars believe in the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner, a player who many analysts consider not only the draft’s best wide receiver, but its best cornerback as well – and certainly its best overall prospect. The Jaguars view this as a selection of two elite players rather than one, and the expectation is Hunter will contribute in a big way on both sides of the ball. That’s unconventional on a scale that never has been seen in the NFL, and Hunter has potential to be a dynamic player of the type the league has rarely – if ever – seen.
