QB J’Mar Smith Inks Short Deal With Birmingham Stallions

In another twist of spring football fate – J’Mar Smith is back with the Birmingham Stallions. Due to an injury to Matt Corral, the team has brought Smith back for the game tonight against the Memphis Showboats.

J’Mar Smith needs no introduction. He’s been with Birmingham the last three seasons, winning a Championship with them every year. Smith was the catalyst for their 2022 championship, but was sidelined in 2023 due to injury. Last year, J’Mar was QB3 the entire way as Adrian Martinez and Matt Corral took starting reps.

Smith didn’t complain in his new role, though, being a big piece to the culture with Birmingham. He was also utilized as an offensive assistant on the sidelines during the games.

Now, Smith returns for one week with Birmingham. We’re told that he’s inked a contract that gives him the ability to be Birmingham’s emergency quarterback tonight, as Corral did not travel with the team due to treatment.

Corral is expected to be back in week six, so Smith’s tenure will likely be short lived. That said, it’s a positive for the Stallions to have him on the roster, and he’ll definitely be a spark to the fans in attendance.

Earlier in the offseason, Skip Holtz said that one of their quarterbacks was retiring – and multiple reports surfaced saying that J’Mar was the QB in question. This lined up with the fact that the Stallions didn’t bring him to Training Camp. However, Smith took to X to tell folks that he was, in fact, not retiring – and now just a few weeks later, he’s back in a Birmingham uniform.

The Stallions will be hosting the Memphis Showboats tonight at 8pm ET on FOX.
