Washington linebacker Carson Bruener, a four-year letterman from Redmond, Wash., was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 30 years after his father, former Husky tight end Mark Bruener, was chosen by the Steelers.

The younger Bruener completed his five-year Husky career last fall, having compiled 306 tackles over 52 career games. A standout special teams player over his entire career, he started all 13 games in 2024, leading the team with 104 tackles. He was one of just two Big Ten players with more than 100 tackles and three interceptions last year. Carson earned third-team All-Big Ten in 2024.

His father, Mark, was a four-year letterman tight end at UW. One of just two true freshmen to play on the 1991 National Championship team, Mark was a first-team All-Pac-10 selection as a junior and senior. He was the Steelers’ first-round pick in 1995, and played the first nine of his 14 years in the NFL as a Steeler.
