The DC Defenders made a splash defensively this week, signing LB Micah Baskerville to the roster. With injuries/turnover at the linebacker position, GM Von Hutchins turns to the former Bear to hopefully provide some depth – and upside – at LB.
Micah has had a successful football career so far. He played all of his college football at LSU, posting 260 tackles, 22.5 TFL’s, four sacks, 12 PBU’s, and two interceptions across his time there.
Baskerville was a part of the 2019 National Championship team at LSU, with that team being a part of his earlier years as a Tiger. Micah saw plenty of growth throughout each season with LSU, with 89 tackles as a senior – as one of the team leaders in that category.
This led to an UDFA stint with the Chicago Bears. He joined their practice squad in 2023, and was on and off of it for the next two seasons. Across his time with the team in preseason, Micah had 25 tackles and a sack in six games – alongside a pick six. He was activated for two games in the 2023 regular season, but didn’t see any meaningful snaps on the field.
Now, Baskerville joins a DC defense that has quite a bit of talent – but has also been reeling at the moment. DC has allowed 30+ points in their last two games, losing two of their last three matchups.
With Ferrod Gardner on IR, and the release of Ralen Goforth this week, Micah makes his way to DC with the potential to work his way into the active rotation. Anthony Hines and Momo Sonago have been the key linebackers in DC this year, but someone of Baskerville’s caliber could certainly benefit Blake Williams’ unit.
