Battlehawks Re-Activate QB Chevan Cordeiro, Cut Trae Self

St. Louis Battlehawks vs. Birmingham Stallions | Week 8 Preview

As the UFL playoffs approach, the St. Louis Battlehawks have seen the return of QB Chevan Cordeiro to the roster. Chevan has been activated off of IR, and in a corresponding move, the Battlehawks released QB Trae Self.

Chevan Cordeiro was an offseason signing for the Battlehawks, joining at the same time as Max Duggan. Chevan was actually the first overall pick in the UFL College Draft this past summer by St. Louis, making it clear that Anthony Becht and Dave Boller were both high on what he could bring to the table.

However, Cordeiro entered the UFL season as QB3 behind Manny Wilkins and Max Duggan. Becht spoke highly on what Chevan brings to the table, but emphasized his need to develop behind the scenes and get comfortable in a pro system. Cordeiro doesn’t have much experience, having a short stint with the Seahawks last summer.

St. Louis was hoping to see him take the field at some point, but Chevan went to IR early in the season – leading to the Battlehawks bringing in Trae Self.

Self ended up serving as the emergency QB option for a few weeks. The former Stephen F. Austin product had a tremendous college career, and earned his first pro opportunity with the Battlehawks, learning the system and showing some growth in practice. With the return of Cordeiro, though, Self was no longer needed on the roster.
