On Tuesday, both the DC Defenders and San Antonio Brahmas made a release. The Defenders cut safety Josh Proctor, while the Brahmas let DT Caeveon Patton go.
S Josh Proctor, Defenders
This one is rather interesting. Josh Proctor has had a wild ride with DC so far. He was cut in camp, but brought back after week one due to an injury to Montae Nicholson. When Nicholson was deemed to return last week, Proctor was released – but immediately was re-signed as Montae wasn’t cleared by the UFL to return off of IR.
This led to Proctor playing 100% of the snaps this past week, as he led the Defenders with nine tackles. Josh has had a few big moments for DC this year, with a game-sealing interception in week five to finish the comeback against the Renegades.
Releasing Proctor is a bit of a strange move with the lack of depth in that secondary – however, we’re told that Sam Kidd should be back this week. Sam has been inactive the last few games due to injury, but was one of the team’s top defenders prior to that injury.
DT Caeveon Patton, Brahmas
While this one comes as a bit of a surprise, Caeveon Patton’s release from San Antonio was mutual on both ends. Patton has been dealing with a neck injury since week five, hence why his snap count has been so low as of late.
Patton played six snaps this past weekend, after missing two games from weeks 6-7 with that injury. Because the UFL wouldn’t approve of Patton going to IR, San Antonio has released him for the time being as he looks to recover.
Patton has been one of spring football’s better DT’s over the past couple of seasons. He had 14 tackles this year, following a 16-tackle, 1.5 sack performance a year ago.
