As the UFL approaches the end of their 2025 season, there’s plenty of questions surrounding the league and its future. Recent reports have surfaced from UFL News Hub, indicating that the UFL is moving towards expansion, renewing some trademarks for old USFL franchises. On top of that, News Hub quotes that Tom Brady – who now works with FOX Sports as a broadcaster – is potentially interested in owning a UFL franchise.
This is, obviously, a major “What If” scenario for the league. If the UFL was able to get Tom Brady into the fold as a team owner, it would be monumental for the league, and spring football in the United States.
Tom has already been involved, to some extent, with the UFL. Last year, he warmed up on the mic behind the scenes calling a couple of UFL games. Most notably, he was in Detroit for Michigan vs. Memphis in week eight – but his call was not aired, as it was a “practice run” for his NFL games during the 2024-2025 season.
A little later on in the season, Tom Brady made his official UFL/broadcasting debut. He was featured with Curt Menefee and Joel Klatt during the second quarter of the UFL Championship game, and later presented the UFL Championship MVP trophy to Adrian Martinez.
All of that leads us to where we’re at right now, as the UFL is set to wrap up their second season of action in a couple of weeks.
There’s been a lot of talk surrounding expansion for the 2026 UFL season. As it stands currently, the UFL is trending towards 10 teams in 2026, as part of the agreement negotiated with the Department of Justice, going back to the USFL-XFL merger. The league was extended with a grace period from the DOJ for 2025 to remain with eight teams, but that doesn’t seem to be the case for 2026.
