Unfortunately, the DC Defenders have lost another key piece right before the postseason. Sam Kidd, one of the standout safeties with the team, has been placed on IR β ending his UFL campaign.
What makes this news tough is the fact that Kidd had finally returned to the lineup this past weekend. He missed five games due to injury, but returned in week nine β and had a forced fumble and fumble recovery that kept DC alive late against Houston.
Samβs been clutch all season long for DC, when healthy. In four games, he posted 11 tackles, a PBU, and an interception.
In week three, during his lone start of the year, Kidd came up with a game-sealing interception on Manny Wilkins for a huge road win over the Battlehawks.
Sadly, it looks like a right shoulder injury he suffered on that final defensive stand against Houston cost him the season. Kiddβs been a DNP all week in practice, and now lands on IR β after already missing five games prior due to a lower body injury prior to week four.
DCβs safety depth is incredibly thin at the moment. They are also missing Deontay Anderson this week, and instead will have Tayler Hawkins starting in his place. Trey Dean will make his UFL debut tonight, backing up Hawkins and Isaiah Johnson at safety.
Look for the Defenders to make a move early next week, as theyβll have to bring someone in for depth prior to the postseason.
