Not surprisingly, the UFL has officially named Shannon Harris (DC Defenders) as the Coach of the Year, following DC’s Championship run this season.
It’s been a special year for Shannon, as he’s been a part of a Defenders franchise that has exceeded expectations all season. They lost Reggie Barlow one week before the year began, as he took a job at Tennessee State.
This led to Shannon Harris taking over as interim HC, and he impressed right off the bat as the DC Defenders managed to upset the reigning Champs in the Stallions at home.
Two weeks later, Harris and this organization would be hit with more rough news: DC Gregg Williams left the team to join Barlow at Tennessee State.
Shannon and this group would be unfazed, though. As they like to say: “The terror must be maintained, or the empire is doomed!”.
The DC Defenders would go on to boast a 6-4 record, making the UFL playoffs – replacing the San Antonio Brahmas from the year prior. Under Harris’ leadership, Jordan Ta’amu had a career year, and DC’s offense was statistically one of the best in the league.
Shannon Harris has continued to build off of the culture that Barlow left them with, and it’s shown all year long. DC’s gritty and competitive nature has now led to their Championship berth. Shannon Harris has done a tremendous job in his debut as a head coach, and one can only imagine where he might be headed on his coaching journey.
On top of Harris winning Coach of the Year, Defenders’ OC Fred Kaiss was named as the Assistant COTY earlier this week.
