It’s been all Birmingham Stallions headed to the NFL so far. Birmingham Stallions DT Perrion Winfrey has signed with the Dallas Cowboys, according to Aaron Wilson.
Winfrey heading back to the NFL is no surprise. He’s fresh off an All-UFL season with the Stallions, serving Birmingham as one of the top DT’s in the entire league.
Perrion joined Birmingham as an offseason addition, making his way back to the pro scene. Winfrey was a standout at Oklahoma, before being a fourth round selection in the NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns.
He was released by Cleveland due to off-field issues, and then landed in New York with the Jets. Unfortunately, an injury cut short what could have been a promising stint there.
This season in the UFL, Perrion impressed. He racked up 32 tackles and a sack, with 19 defensive stops to his name via PFF. Winfrey put up numbers almost every week – and even when he was ‘less productive’ – he was still making plays for teammates taking on double teams.
Winfrey finished the UFL season with a positive 70.1 Defensive Grade, via PFF. He also had 26 QB pressures.
Now, Perrion makes his way back to the NFL, signing with the Dallas Cowboys. Had it not been for the platform that the UFL provided him with, who knows if this opportunity would have come along. Dallas has a track record of signing spring athletes – notably former Stallions’ kicker Brandon Aubrey, and Generals WR/RS KaVontae Turpin.
