And just like that, Sal Cannella is back in the NFL. After an All-UFL campaign with the Arlington Renegades, Cannella has landed with the Cleveland Browns, according to ML Football.
This isn’t Sal’s first rodeo in the NFL. He’s been able to sign an NFL contract every summer, following his dominant spring seasons.
Cannella’s story is fascinating. He played in The Spring League for a couple of years, dominating with the Generals – and lighting up the stat sheets especially with Bryan Scott as his QB in 2020. In 2022, Sal made his way to the USFL, where he played impressively well with the New Orleans Breakers. With Kyle Sloter as his QB, Sal set a single game receiving record in their postseason matchup against Birmingham, with 135 yards.
Then, Cannella made the jump to the NFL, with the Green Bay Packers. Following that stint, he chose to go to the newly rebooted XFL, landing in Arlington. The Renegades saw quite a bit of production from Sal despite the revolving door at QB. Cannella posted 415 receiving yards, and scored the first touchdown in the XFL Championship that year. This led to an NFL stint with the Seahawks.
Last year, Sal racked up 497 receiving yards and six touchdowns, dominating with the Renegades. Despite their poor record, Cannella was nearly unstoppable, and this earned him another NFL opportunity – this time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
