On the heels of the news that the UFL will be relocating four franchises to new cities, we’ve received word from multiple league sources on the probable locations that the league plans to head into.
The four cities that the UFL is most likely to expand into are:
Boise, Idaho*
Columbus, Ohio
Florida (Orlando/Tampa Bay)
Kentucky (Louisville/Lexington)
Let’s take a look at what each market offers the UFL, and the reasoning behind these moves.
Boise, Idaho*
Boise is the one location that has an asterisk on it, due to the recent reports from B.J. Rains that Boise isn’t fully locked in yet. According to Rains’ sources, Boise officials claim that the UFL put expansion talks on pause weeks ago with the city.
From what we’re told, though, this isn’t the case. Boise has been a hot topic of discussion with the UFL the past few months – ever since expansion talks began. Of the 30+ markets who sent in expansion offers to the league, Boise was in the top three, we’re told.
Boise is a unique city for the league to target. There aren’t any NFL, NBA, or MLB teams remotely close to the city – despite their strong support for the Boise State Broncos, who just produced Ashton Jeanty – one of college’s most exciting prospects of the past several years.
