Coleman, Williams Jr. Named To Maxwell Award Watch List


SEATTLE – Washington running back Jonah Coleman and quarterback Demond Williams Jr. have been named to The Maxwell Award watch list, The Maxwell Football Club announced today.
 
UW is one of 17 schools with multiple watch list honorees while the Big Ten Conference has 14 representatives on the list.
 
Coleman, a senior from Stockton, California, rushed for 1,053 yards last season with 10 touchdowns. Coleman also caught 23 passes for 177 yards. He became the 15th different Husky to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season on his way to third-team All-Big Ten honors by the media and honorable mention by the coaches. Coleman’s 5.46 rush yards per carry were fifth-most by a Big Ten running back.
 
Williams Jr., a sophomore from Chandler, Arizona, appeared in every game during the 2024 season while starting the final two contests (at No. 1 Oregon and vs. Louisville in the Sun Bowl). He finished the season 82-for-105 (.781) for 944 yards, eight touchdowns and just one interception, while rushing for 282 yards and two scores on 83 carries. In the Sun Bowl, Williams Jr. threw for four touchdowns putting him in a tie for eighth in a single-game and tied Keith Price (2011 Alamo Bowl) for most in a bowl game by a Husky.
 
The Maxwell Award has been presented to the College Player of the Year since 1937 and is named in honor of Robert “Tiny” Maxwell who was a former standout at Swarthmore College and a renowned sportswriter and football official.
 
Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced November 11, while the three finalists will be named on November 25. The winner of the 89th Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on December 11.
