DALLAS, Texas – Redshirt sophomore running back Nolan Ray has been named a preseason candidate for the 2025 Doak Walker Award, which is presented annually to the nation’s most outstanding college running back.
Ray played in all 12 games for the Terps in 2024, rushing for 374 yards on 75 attempts and averaging nearly 5.0 yards per carry. He scored a pair of touchdowns and also hauled in 11 receptions for 76 receiving yards.
A 2024 Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award watch list selection, Ray posted a career-high 10 carries and rushed for 53 yards in Maryland’s win at Virginia. Later in the season, Ray posted a team-high 54 yards on six carries to help the Terps defeat USC.
The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name ten semifinalists in November, and three finalists, as voted on by the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee, will also be announced in November. The committee will cast a second vote in December to determine the recipient. The National Selection Committee consists of past recipients, former NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members and selected special representatives. The recipient of the 2025 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on December 12, 2024.
