NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt’s Diego Pavia has been named to the watch list for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award, which is presented annually to the nation’s best college quarterback, it was announced on Thursday.
It’s the third honor Pavia is a candidate for this fall, as he has also been placed on both the Walter Camp and Maxwell Player of the Year Award Watch Lists also.
Last fall—his first with the Commodores—he was 177-of-298 passing for 2,293 yards and 20 touchdowns to go along with 801 yards and eight scores rushing. He was chosen the SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week, Manning Award Star of the Week and to the Davey O’Brien Great 8 following his Vandy debut after connecting on 12-of-16 attempts for 190 yards and two touchdowns and running for a season-best 104 yards and the game-winning score in overtime in a victory over Virginia Tech.
Pavia threw for 252 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 56 yards in Vandy’s win over No. 1 Alabama as he was selected the SEC Offensive Player of the Week, and Maxwell and Davey O’Brien Awards National Player of the Week, capping the season by earning Birmingham Bowl Most Valuable Player honors after accounting for 245 yards of total offense and five scores (three passing, two rushing) in the Dores’ defeat of Georgia Tech.
The resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, was named the SEC Newcomer of the Year, and was the Associated Press’ national Newcomer of the Year and second-team All-SEC quarterback at the end of the season.
Vanderbilt and Pavia are set to open 2025 on Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. at FirstBank Stadium against Charleston Southern. More information on available season tickets, mini-plans and single-game tickets this fall is available here.
