The Detroit Lions continue to sign UFL talent – and do so once again with the addition of RB Deon Jackson. Jackson, who spent the past UFL season with the DC Defenders, has generated some NFL interest and now signs with Detroit.
Jackson was an offseason addition to the DC Defenders backfield – and was a much needed one at that. DC’s ground game in 2024 was lacking, but GM Von Hutchins made sure things improved in 2025. Having Abram Smith back on the roster, alongside a guy like Deon Jackson, resulted in a lot more success.
Deon worked his way into the starting role during the second half of the season. He was clearly the more versatile back, and showcased his abilities throughout the year.
In the regular season, Jackson rushed for 416 yards and four touchdowns – averaging a strong five yards per carry. The postseason continued his strong campaign, as he had 157 yards and four touchdowns across those two games alone – helping propel the Defenders to their Championship victory.
Deon is no stranger to the NFL. He’s spent time with the Colts, Browns, Giants, and Jets. Now, he lands with the Detroit Lions, as the 5th Defender to sign an NFL contract this offseason.
The Lions have been nothing but a pipeline for UFL players so far. They’ve signed Battlehawks RB Jacob Saylors, Battlehawks DB Nick Whiteside, Panthers DB D.J. Miller Jr., and Brahmas TE Steven Stilianos to their roster already – and now, they bring in Jackson to compete in the RB room with Saylors and others.
Without the national platform that the UFL provided him with, who knows if this would have been made possible. You can stay up to date on all UFL to NFL signings with our official tracker.
