Just like that, after finishing up their second preseason game with the Arizona Cardinals just a few days ago, the Indianapolis Colts are back on the practice field Tuesday afternoon and competing against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Bengals will host the Colts for this joint practice and then the two teams will face each other in the preseason finale on Thursday.
As far as the roster battles for both playing time and spots on the 53-man go, these joint practices have been an important part of the evaluation process. In several ways, they can even provide more value than preseason games, with key starters participating, teams able to emphasize specific situations, such as red zone and two-minute periods, and coaches are willing to show a little bit more from a schematic perspective.
