After a few NFL workouts, Memphis Showboats EDGE Jaylon Allen has made his way to the next level. The San Francisco 49ers are signing Allen, following a successful workout with the team over the weekend.
Jaylon Allen is the exact reason why a league like the UFL exists. He’s a young prospect who just completed his first full pro season, utilizing the UFL as a platform to develop – and showcase his talents to the nation.
Allen ended up starting in nine of 10 games played with Memphis this season. He was a key piece in Jarren Horton’s defense, totaling 21 QB pressures and 10 defensive stops on the year. Allen posted 20 total tackles and a couple of sacks with the Showboats in 2025.
Joining the Memphis Showboats was a homecoming for Allen, who spent his college career with the Memphis Tigers. Allen worked his way into a starting role with the Tigers across his final couple of seasons. He totaled 151 tackles, 25 TFL’s, 13 sacks, an interception, and five PBU’s in Memphis. Jaylon earned 2023 Second-Team All-AAC honors, after posting 41 tackles and two sacks as a senior.
This led to a short UDFA stint with the Denver Broncos a year ago, prior to signing with the Showboats.
Following his UFL season, Jaylon had workouts with Arizona, New England, Carolina, and San Francisco – ultimately signing with the 49ers. Allen is the second Showboats player to sign an NFL contract (QB Dresser Winn, Rams), and the first pickup by the 49ers from the UFL in 2025.
Without the national platform that the UFL provided him with, who knows if this would have been made possible. You can stay up to date on all UFL to NFL signings with our official tracker.
