Zion Johnson is from nearby Bowie, Maryland, and played his high school football for Riverdale Baptist in Upper Marlboro. Also a member of the golf team in high school, Johnson was lightly recruited out of high school. He didn’t receive a star ranking from 247Sports and spent the first two years of his college career at Davidson College in North Carolina.
It didn’t take long to realize Johnson was an FBS player. He transferred to Boston College in 2019 — a school quietly known for producing outstanding offensive linemen. Johnson thrived with the Eagles, taking over at left guard in 2019 and starting seven games. Johnson earned second-team All-ACC honors after the season.
In 2020, Johnson started at left guard and was named third-team All-ACC. In addition to his outstanding play on the field, Johnson earned All-Academic honors for the second straight year. Johnson was even better in 2021, earning first-team All-ACC and first-team All-American honors in his final collegiate season.
