Deebo Samuel’s trade request could throw a massive wrench into the 49ers’ 2022 NFL draft. The request not only highlighted a problem with the team’s depth at wide receiver, but executing a trade would also launch them into the first round while creating a massive need at receiver.
It looked all offseason like San Francisco wouldn’t pick until No. 61 when all the top WRs would be off the board and the 49ers wouldn’t be able to prioritize that position while trying to fill other roster holes.
That changes if they trade Samuel though. They don’t necessarily need to replace him with a one-for-one match in terms of skill set, but they would have a gaping hole at the top of their WR depth chart that would need to be filled with a player who might one day be a No. 1 option for them.
So, in the event they’re blown away by an offer for Samuel and pull the trigger on a deal, here are some names to know from this year’s WR class:
