Fourth-ranked Clemson enters Week 7 of the regular season with its fifth ACC matchup of the season on the road at Florida State.
In their second-straight contest on the road, the Tigers look to keep their undefeated record alive at Doak Campbell Stadium when they face a 4-2 Florida State team at home for the first time since 2018.
With a very improved Jordan Travis at the helm for the Seminoles, Clemson’s defense will have yet another challenge on their hands when they hit the field for the primetime matchup in Tallahassee.
Both Clemson’s secondary and defensive front look to return key starters this weekend including Bryan Bresee, Xavier Thomas, Sheridan Jones and Tyler Venables.
Here are three defensive keys for a Clemson win at Florida State on the road:
1. Healthy defensive starters
For the first time this season, Clemson will have all its defensive starters available. With a veteran front that includes Xavier Thomas, Bryan Bresee, Myles Murphy, Tyler Davis and K.J. Henry all back and healthy, we will finally be able to see “The Avengers” fully assembled against a talented Florida State team. If the Tigers can remain healthy and put their best defensive weapons out on the field, they should have no issue overwhelming QB Jordan Travis and the Seminoles offense.
2. Contain Jordan Travis
New year, new Jordan Travis. The second-year Florida State quarterback has steadily improved since his last meeting with the Tigers in 2021, bringing a much improved passing game to the Seminoles offense this season. Clemson will need to put up big stops early as well as contain Travis and his offensive weapons in running backs Treshaun Ward and Trey Benson as well as receivers Johnny Wilson, Ontaria Wilson and Mycah Pittman.
