Program Gets Underway Saturday With Book Drive At Spring Showcase

The 2024 Cal Football Summer Reading Challenge will launch Saturday with a book drive at the Cal Football Spring Showcase. Jaydn Ott and Jack Endries are hosting this year’s program that was originally founded and designed by former Golden Bear Patrick Laird in 2018 to combat summer learning loss and continued in subsequent years by Brian Driscoll and Mike Saffell.

Ott and Endries made their first school visit last Friday at Rosa Parks Elementary School in Berkeley to read to students and promote the reading challenge. Ott, Endries, and many of their Cal football teammates will continue visiting schools over the next several weeks to serve as role models and inspire reading.

All participants who complete the reading challenge will receive two free tickets to Cal’s 2024 season opener against UC Davis at California Memorial Stadium on August 31.

See the information below to participate. We are excited to turn pages with you this summer!

  • Sign up, download a reading log and learn more by visiting the Cal Football Summer Reading Challenge page.
  • Contribute to the Cal Football Summer Reading Challenge Book Drive by bringing a new book from our online wish list to the spring showcase or donate online. All books on our wish list are Jack & Jaydn tested (and teacher approved). Every book donated will find its way to a Title 1 classroom and a Bay Area student to encourage summer reading.
  • Bring your books to one of the two donation stations located at the Gate 2 and Gate 5 entrances to California Memorial Stadium at the spring showcase.
  • The first 500 people to donate books will receive a limited-edition memorabilia item and priority access to Jack and Jaydn at the team’s postgame autograph session.
  • If you donate online, show a screenshot with proof of the donation at one of the two donation stations at California Memorial Stadium on the day of the spring showcase.
  • Donate 10 or more books from the online wish list and be entered into a raffle for a chance to win exciting…
