Auburn football has landed its first transfer of the spring transfer portal window.
Former Indiana defensive lineman Philip Blidi visited Auburn last week after spending time at Washington and LSU. He was scheduled to visit Oklahoma over the weekend but canceled his visit. He ended the weekend by announcing his commitment to Auburn.
In a recent interview with Auburn Undercover, Blidi shared that Auburn’s ability to develop him into a great defensive lineman, as well as the family atmosphere, is what drew him to Auburn.
“They can get me to be the kind of caliber of player that I want to become in this last season. And the people. I think my family would love it here. I think my family would feel very welcomed for the time that we’re here. I think that they would love it and I think this is a place we’d feel welcomed to come back.
“It’s a place we would love to come back and live here. That’s the kind of community it is here. That’s big. And then the resources here for life after football. Just the fact that there’s so many alum that work here, that really speaks a lot. They don’t just talk about it, the facts are here. They said the saying, ‘If you love Auburn it will love you back’ and I’m seeing why, I’m really seeing why. That’s why.”
Blidi is the first player to transfer to Auburn from the spring transfer portal window. In three seasons at Indiana and Texas Tech, Blidi recorded 69 tackles with 10.5 going for a loss. During the 2023 season at Indiana, Blidi made 30 stops with 4.0 tackles for loss in 12 games.
