Penn State came into this season with plenty of kicking options after Chase Meyer transferred in this offseason with a chance to win the starting job. Instead, former top-ranked kicker in the 2021 recruiting class, Sander Sahaydak, won the battle.
As a redshirt sophomore last year he struggled, missing two field goals in the opener against West Virginia that ultimately lost him his starting job. Sahaydak missed another one in this season’s opener, but he rebounded to make two field goals against Bowling Green.
Unfortunately, after missing two against Illinois that would have made the game much more comfortable, it seems like James Franklin and his coaching staff need to evaluate who should be their placekicker going forward.
