Where Michigan football ranks On3 too early top 25 power rankings

If the end of the 2024 season proved anything, Michigan football is on the rise.

Yes, the Wolverines will lose some big talent going from year to year, with Will Johnson, Mason Graham, Colston Loveland, Kenneth Grant, Josaiah Stewart, Myles Hinton, Donovan Edwards, and Kalel Mullings all moving on, but given how the maize and blue played in the ReliaQuest Bowl against Alabama (with none of the aforementioned having played), the future looks bright.

And that’s not even considering Bryce Underwood signing, the transfer portal additions, or the change in offensive coordinator with Chip Lindsey coming in.

On3’s Andy Staples and Ari Wasserman put together their list of who they think will be the best of the best in 2025, even as the national championship game has yet to take place culminating the 2024 season. And the Wolverines come in ranked No. 12 in their estimation.

12. Michigan

Ari: Sherrone Moore didn’t shoot out of a cannon this year, but Michigan’s culture was strong enough to beat Ohio State and Alabama to close out its season. The Wolverines signed five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood and brought in running back Justice Haynes to go along with Jordan Marshall. Michigan loses important pieces like Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant, but the Wolverines should be better next year.

Other Big Ten teams that made the cut include No. 2 Ohio State, No. 3 Oregon, No. 4 Penn State, No. 7 Illinois, No. 23 Indiana, and No. 25 Nebraska. The only opponents on the upcoming schedule that the Wolverines play are Nebraska (in Week 4), Ohio State (in Week 14), and No. 18 Oklahoma (in Week 2).
