Houston Texans Sign Roughnecks CB Damon Arnette

USFL Power Rankings: Pittsburgh Remains Winless Through Four Weeks

Damon Arnette – formerly a first round pick with the Raiders – is back in the NFL. The Houston Texans are signing Arnette to their roster, per Aaron Wilson. This comes after Damon spent this past spring in the UFL, playing for the Houston Roughnecks.

Damon Arnette has had quite the journey throughout his career. After being a standout at Ohio State, he was drafted in the first round by the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020.

Arnette saw a fallout from the NFL’s ranks, though, due to off field issues. After a couple of years without being on a team, Roughnecks’ HC C.J. Johnson and this organization gave him an opportunity to right the ship.

That’s exactly what Damon did in the UFL. Not only was he one of the top CB’s in the league, but Arnette showed that he’s grown quite a bit not just as a player, but as a person. His character was spoken highly of by Daryl Johnston and C.J. Johnson throughout the season.

Arnette ended up with 19 tackles, a pick six, and four PBU’s during his season with the Roughnecks. Damon was worked out almost instantly after the UFL season ended by the Texans, who were clearly scouting him throughout the year.

Now, Arnette gets a chance to make his way back to the NFL – all because of the platform the UFL provided him with.
