ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Michigan played its annual Spring Football Game presented by DTE MIGreenPower on Saturday (April 2) at Michigan Stadium, marking a close to the spring season. The Blue team defeated the Maize team, 20-12.
The Maize team struck first with a chip-shot field goal (25 yards) from kicker Rhett Andersen at 7:36 in the first quarter.
The first touchdown came just after the start of the second quarter, when Blue team running back Tavierre Dunlap punched in a three-yard score at 11:55. The Maize team tried to answer on its next possession but was stopped at the goal line and had to settle for a field goal to close the half, with Anderson knocking one in from 31 yards out. The score at halftime was 7-6, Blue team out front.
The Blue team added to its lead when the second half started. Quarterback Alan Bowman hit early enrollee freshman receiver Darrius Clemons for a 35-yard touchdown with 3:31 remaining in the third quarter, making it 14-6. Anderson responded with his third field goal of the afternoon, a 33-yarder, and the lead was cut to five.
The Blue squad added one last score in the final minutes, set up by running the second double-pass of the afternoon. The scoring drive finished with a touchdown catch from Sam Staruch via Bowman, making it 20-9 after the extra point was missed.
