Tigers land Ohio State transfer CB Sevyn Banks

After weeks of rumors and Crystal Ball predictions, Sevyn Banks is officially a Tiger.

Banks spent four years at Ohio State, where he had an up and down career with injuries preventing him from fully settling in.

Cornerback has been a position of need for LSU with the Tigers losing significant production to the draft and transfer portal. Adding depth to that room has been one of Kelly’s top priorities since he took the job at LSU.

Earlier in the cycle, LSU added Greg Brooks Jr., Jarrick Bernard-Converse, and Mekhi Garner — three guys with experience who could come in and compete right away. Banks fits the same mold after getting healthy playing time at one of the top programs in the country.

LSU has a few options at nickel, with guys like Brooks and Sage Ryan. However, the situation on the outside was more dire as LSU didn’t have any other option but to turn to transfers. Banks is sure to find himself in that outside corner rotation.

He was an All-Big Ten honorable mention in 2020 and had high hopes heading into 2021, but only played eight games due to an injury. According to 247Sports, Banks is the 15th transfer LSU has landed this cycle. Only Ole Miss and USC have better portal classes this cycle.
