The USC Trojans will win in 2022 if their players are good enough, and if they have enough good players, hence the need to hit the transfer portal. Yet, having good players isn’t entirely the answer to a team’s problems. The players have to be coached well. Lincoln Riley and Alex Grinch are on the job there. They also have to be led well.
Caleb Williams is on top of that task.
Williams revealed after Saturday’s USC spring game that he and a few other USC teammates are taking it upon themselves to create a cohesive, resilient, unified locker room which will grow and get stronger as the season continues.
Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times has more:
“We have a leadership group,” Williams said. “We meet every week or so. One of the biggest things is that elite teams are led by the players, held accountable by the players. Good teams, they’re led by their coaches, held accountable by the coaches. The poor teams, there’s nobody that does that. We’ve been trying to be the elite team.”
Leadership and culture don’t just happen. They don’t just emerge because new people are in town. The new faces, the new players on the roster, take charge and insist on creating positive change.
Caleb Williams isn’t just a star athlete; he is taking it upon himself — with teammates — to lead this USC team.
