On Thursday night, former Oregon Ducks defensive star Kayvon Thibodeaux is going to find out which city he will be playing in at the next level.
The 2022 NFL Draft is just a few hours from getting underway, and with it comes the end of the endless conversation about Thibodeaux, and how far he might ultimately fall once the clock starts.
Thibodeaux was perceived as one of, if not the top overall pick in the draft entering the 2021 college football season. After an early injury, and months of media narratives taking over, it appears that Thibodeaux is not only unlikely to be taken first overall, but could potentially slip in the first round after questions about his work ethic have popped up.
We’ve talked about those worries at length here at Ducks Wire. While many of them are concerned with his tendency to take plays off during his final season with the Ducks, others focus on the fact that he has many interests outside of football, such as growing his brand and marketing himself.
Whether you agree with the criticism or not, it’s clear that leading up to the draft, the story of Kayvon Thibodeaux has been about everything but his talent on the field. Here’s what some of the latest coaches and scouts are saying about the Oregon legend, according to The Athletic.
‘I don’t see it’
Defensive Coach No. 2: He needs to be in the right system. I am a fan of the pass rusher. He can roll now. His first step is as good as anyone’s. He’s twitchy. He’s a poor run defender. If a 4-3 team takes him, they’re gonna wish he can get bigger. I don’t see it. He’s a smaller-boned dude.
