ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany football program heads into the weekend preparing for its annual Spring Game. The event is set to take place this Sunday, May 1, at 10:30 a.m. at Casey Stadium.
The game is free and open to the public, giving fans the opportunity to get an early look at the 2022 Great Danes. The offense is set to be dressed in purple, the defense in white.
“We are pleased with our progress this spring and we look forward to finishing strong,” said Head Coach Greg Gattuso. “Our spring game on Sunday morning will help us see the direction we need to go in spring recruiting, which starts next week. It will be great to see football fans in Casey Stadium for the first time since the end of last season.”
The Spring Game marks the culmination of Spring Practice, which began back on April 1. The Great Danes have held 13 sessions throughout the month, with the final taking place tomorrow (April 29) before Sunday’s game.
The 2022 season will begin with a trip to FBS powerhouse Baylor on Sept. 3. In 2021, the Bears finished the season as the No. 5 team in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll and the No. 6 team in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll, both being the best of any Big 12 team. Should Baylor keep its ranking, the game will mark the first time in program history the Great Danes will have played a ranked FBS squad.
The Great Danes return to Casey Stadium for the first time on Sept. 10 to play UNH at home. Other home opponents in 2022 include CCSU (9.24), Hampton (10.15), Stony Brook (10.29), and Maine (11.12).
