Nebraska waiting for a different kind of draft day announcement

Happy draft day, everyone! While it is the big day, almost all of the football world will have their eyes on Sin City. Most Nebraska fans are looking ahead to Saturday. No, they’re not waiting for the final day of the draft. They’re waiting to hear the announcement of where TCU transfer Ochaun Mathis will play next year. Mathis is a 6″5′ 280-pound defensive end and is one of the most sought-after players in the portal this year. Last year Mathis had 45 tackles, was tied for the team lead with 4.0 sacks, and placed second with 7.0 tackles for loss. He was also a 2021 selection second-team All-Big 12. The defensive end chose TCU from high school over Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas Tech. His decision on Saturday will be between the Huskers and the Texas Longhorns.

We talked several times before about the importance of this possible commitment. Nebraska was already thin on the defensive line in the spring. With the announcement of Casey Rodgers entering the transfer portal now more than ever, Nebraska could use some reinforcements. If Mathis announces Nebraska this weekend, it would be one of the most significant commitments they’ve received in recent memory.
